The steady rainfall that has drenched the Island since Saturday was responsible for dumping 5.36 inches of rain so far this month. The average for December is 4.4 inches.

"We have just had a series of low fronts come across us,'' the spokesman said. "A cold front came through on Sunday night toward the south. We expect it to stall, travel north and return. We should expect more rain over the next 48 hours.'' Last year 52.32 inches of rain fell on the Island. So far this year 64.26 inches have fallen.

Low temperatures were also a feature of the weekend with a low of 59.5 degrees on Friday. The lowest ever recorded temperature in December was 50 degrees in 1962.
