Ports witness a busy pre-Cup Match week
The weekly cruise ships brought in more than 8,000 passengers to the Island prior to the two day classic. And the holiday has also forced one container ship to re-arrange its schedule to avoid the busy holiday period.
Meyer Agencies reported that The Bermuda Islander , which sailed from Salem, New Jersey will arrive on the Island ahead of schedule today.
The ship is carrying 87 containers with 13 refrigerated containers. It will make only a brief visit to unload its cargo before leaving later this afternoon.
The Crown Dynasty , arrived on the Island last Friday from Philadelphia. The ship carried 816 passengers to the Island and left on Monday.
Celebrity Cruises' Zenith carrying 1,630 passengers, arrived on the Island from New York on Monday. It was originally berthed in Hamilton before it moves to St. George's today. It is expected to sail back to New York tomorrow.
The Horizon , carrying 1,576 passengers on its weekly run to the Island, berthed in St. George's before switching to Hamilton yesterday. It is expected to set sail tomorrow.
The Norwegian Majesty arrived to the Island early yesterday morning. The ship, which was carrying 1,718 passengers, is berthed at Ordinance Island. It is expected to set sail on Friday.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's The Nordic Empress arrived to the Island yesterday carrying 1,811 passengers. The ship was berthed in Hamilton before it moved to Dockyard. It will be travelling back to New York on Friday. The Pacific Princess also arrived to the Island yesterday carrying more than 600 passengers. The ship is now docked in St. George's. It will shift to Hamilton this morning and then to Dockyard tomorrow. It will sail back to New York on Friday.
Container Ship Managements Oleander arrived to the Island on Sunday carrying 167 dry containers with 45 refrigerated containers. It also carried three 40-foot trailers and one car. The ship left Bermuda yesterday.
And the cement ship Cem Fast arrived in Bermuda on Monday for a two-day stay from Venezuela. It is expected to leave today for the Bahamas. The ship is berthed at Dockyard. The ship, weighing in at 74,000 gross metric tons at a length of 141 meters was carrying 6,500 tons of cargo.
