New Winners' Edge cycle shop in Hamilton.

Mrs. Hopkins has gone into business with Mrs. Maria Medeiros, retail banking officer at the Bank of Bermuda.

They bought the enterprise, which is located in the same building as Romanoff's Restaurant, on Church Street, from brothers David and Alfred Sabir.

Maria's husband, Paul, who recently resigned as manager of Wheels Ltd. after 20 years, has been appointed manager.

For some time, cycling expert Mr. Medeiros has been responsible for servicing the racing bikes of Mary and her husband, Greg, who is the Island's top male triathlete.

Mr. Medeiros will carry out the day-to-day running of the store, while Mrs.

Hopkins carries on her teaching job at Gilbert institute and Mrs. Medeiros stays in her job. Mr. Hopkins does not have a role in the business.

Mr. Medeiros said yesterday: "I was approached by the Sabirs wanting to sell the business while I was working at Wheels. We decided to go for it. It's something that I've wanted to do for a long time.

"We've kept things pretty much the same except we've expanded the range of cycles to cater for all ages, instead of just adults. We've also extended the racing line.'' The store stocks Cannondale and Giant cycles and sells everything from the actual bike to helmets, cycling clothes and many other types of accessories.
