Top health officer turns to real estate
joined Thomas Moss Real Estate as a salesman.
Mr. Mayers is a former chief environmental health officer with Government, having held that position for 18 years until retiring in July of this year. He worked for Government for 33 years.
"I'm trying to bring my background knowledge and experience of Bermuda environmental and management aspects and property development into real estate,'' said Mr. Mayers.
Ms Wendy Peach has been appointed assistant controller of MarketPlace Ltd.
Ms Peach previously worked for the accounting firm Anfossi & Butterfield, whom she joined in September, 1990.
In August of this year, she passed the Certified Public Accountants examination.
Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort has announced the following appointments: Mr.
Stanley Douglas has become assistant controller. Mr. Douglas has extensive experience in the accounting and hospitality industries.
As assistant controller, he is responsible for managing accounts payable, night audit and payroll.
He went to Marriott's from Glencoe Harbour Club, where he was the accountant.
He has also worked for Grotto Bay Hotel and Sonesta Beach Hotel.
Mr. Basil Outerbridge has been promoted to banquet captain at Marriott's. Mr.
Outerbridge started his career in the hotel industry in 1970 as a bus boy at Castle Harbour and later served as an assistant Maitre'd and beverage manager.
In 1989, he left the hotel to pursue personal interests but returned in 1991.
He attended Bermuda Technical College.
Mr. Norman Dowling has been appointed manager of the Golf Grille Restaurant at Marriott's.
Mr. Dowling has more than 20 years of experience in the hotel business and has worked at most of the major hotels on the Island.
He is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the 120-seat restaurant and bar. He is a graduate of the Bermuda Hotel College.
Mr. Helder DeSilva has been appointed as Chief Steward, with responsibility for managing the hotel's utility areas and maintaining high sanitation levels in all food and beverage outlets.
Business Systems Ltd. has announced the following appointments and promotions: Mr. Stuart Brash , 28, has become business development manager (AT&T products). He was previously a financial sector account manager for NCR/AT&T in London, England.
Mr. Jeff Kirby has been appointed BSL's business development manager-finance.
His duties will include focusing on developing finance business in Bermuda.
He was previously sales manager finance and banking with Pyramid Technology.
He has spent 14 years in information technology, working closely with UK clearing banks and international banks.
Mr. John McCleary has become BSL's information technology consultant, with responsibilities for advising on business process re-engineering and using it to achieve strategic benefits such as improved customer service and cost-efficiency.
Mr. McCleary, a former teacher and keen bagpipe player, was previously senior account manager with FileNet Corporation, responsible for all the company's business in Scotland.
He implemented six large-scale production image processing and workflow automation systems with major Scottish financial institutions.
