Tyco completes acquisition

Home Products Corp.'s medical supplies unit for $1.77 billion in cash, adding catheters, needles and syringes to its hospital supply product line.

The planned acquisition of the St. Louis-based Sherwood-Davis & Geck division, which will be operated as part of Tyco's Kendall Co. unit, was announced in December.

Sherwood-Davis & Geck has about $1 billion in annual revenue, half of it generated outside the US. "The combination of the Kendall Co. and Sherwood exemplifies our ongoing strategy of improving our performance by broadening our product offering to the acute care and alternate site medical markets worldwide,'' L. Dennis Kozlowski, chairman and chief executive of Tyco, said in a statement. Tyco had spent more than $9 billion to buy businesses over the past year.
