US Navy frigate rides to the rescue
last Sunday but arrived on Saturday having taken part in a medical rescue.
The ship raced 900 miles northeast of Bermuda last Friday morning to take charge of a heart attack victim on the Baltimore Sirius and bring him to Bermuda.
The vessel set sail on Sunday for Norfolk, Virginia, on a "tiger cruise'' with 86 civilian friends and relatives of crew on board.
Also in the Island's waters recently was the research vessel Oceanus . Working for the Woods Hole Institute in Massachusettes, the 883 tonne vessel docked in St. George's last Wednesday. The vessel stayed in Bermuda for two days, taking mud samples from the sea floor about 300 miles off the coast of the Island.
Regular visitors to the Island's shores included the container ship Oleander which arrived in Hamilton on Sunday from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was carrying 34 refrigerated containers and 147 dry containers.
The ship, which was also carrying seven road trailers and eight cars, sailed for Port Elizabeth yesterday.
The cruise ship Nordic Empress arrived at St. George's from New York yesterday (TUE) with 1,737 passengers. It arrives in Hamilton today and leaves for New York on Friday.
The Somers Isle arrived in Hamilton from Fernandina Beach, Florida, on Sunday with 111 containers, including six refrigerated. The cargo also included a 17-foot boat, a pick-up truck, two water tanks and 50 bundles of building materials. The ship returned to Fernandina Beach on Monday.
The cruise ship Zenith arrived in Hamilton from New York on Monday with 1,376 passengers. It moves to St. George's today before returning to New York tomorrow.
The Norwegian Crown docked at St. George's from New York on Monday with 948 passengers. It moved to Hamilton yesterday and will return to New York tomorrow.
The Horizon arrived at King's Wharf at Dockyard from Philadelphia yesterday with an undisclosed number of passengers. It is due to return to the US tomorrow.
An unknown number of passengers arrived at St. George's yesterday on board the Norwegian Majesty from Boston. It sails for Boston on Friday.
The Bermuda Islander arrives from Salem, New Jersey, tomorrow with a cargo of 114 containers, three 45-foot trailers and two boats. It returns to Salem on Friday.
M/Y Chamar , a 187-foot motor-yacht, arrived at Ordnance Island, St. George's on Sunday from Punta del Gada in the Azores. It is due to leave today (WED) for Savannah, Georgia.
Mysteries of the deep: The Oceanus has been in Bermuda taking samples from the ocean depths.
