The Bermuda Electric Light Company reported that a major fault and the explosion occurred in a switching vault in Forest Hills around 1 p.m.

The fault affected the underground supply system in the area which in turn affected systems feeding other parts of Warwick, including parts of South Road, Ord Road and Middle Road.

Belco said crews were working on the problem from the outset and service was restored to most areas by 5 p.m.

But customers who directly feed off the Forest Hills underground system -- those living on Forest Hills Drive, Middlewood Drive, Spicewood Drive, and Glenwood Park Crescent -- were without power until shortly before 7 p.m.
