Record 2Q for Bda.'s RSL
announced record results for the second quarter and first six months of 1999.
Consolidated revenues for the second quarter 1999 were $367.7 million, compared to $340.3 million for the first quarter 1999, a gain of eight percent and $166.6 million for the second quarter 1998, a gain of 121 percent, continuing the trend of strong growth. Normalised EBITDA loss for the second quarter 1999 improved to $3.9 million, which included positive EBITDA of $6.3 million from operations in Europe.
Itzhak Fisher, President and Chief Executive Officer of RSL COM said, "I am very pleased with our performance -- particularly in Europe, which has always been the primary focus of our business. We grew revenues in Europe over 17 percent sequentially, despite a strengthening US dollar and significant competition in Germany, and overall have strengthened the positive EBITDA contribution from Europe.
In the second quarter, seven of our 14 European countries and 8 countries globally were EBITDA positive. For the month of June, 10 European countries and 12 countries globally were EBITDA positive. We are moving ahead with building our European network, which we expect will lower our cost of service and enable us to prosper despite the price pressures in certain markets. On a consolidated basis, we continue to expect to become EBITDA positive in the third quarter.''
