Auto dealer predicts boost in construction, adds new trucks to vehicle range

A Bermuda auto firm is thinking big — for it is to introduce heavy trucks from South Korea’s Hyundai to their line-up.

And Auto Solutions — which already imports Hyundai’s range of cars and vans — said the marque was set to be a hit with business owners on the Island.

Auto Solutions managing director Glen Smith said: “The Hyundai heavy commercial vehicles coming out of Korea are not only ideal for Bermuda in terms of size and utility, but also the price point is very competitive for our local market.”

Mr Smith said that large trucks in Bermuda were traditionally Japanese, with Mitsubishi, Toyota and Isuzu popular makes.

He added that many trucks were left-hand drive and had no warranty or service support in Bermuda as buyers brought them in as private imports.

Mr Smith said: “We have also found the support network from the Hyundai brand to be excellent, especially because they have a regional office in Miami, where we source our spare parts and service support from.

“Comparatively speaking, this saves our business, as well as our Hyundai customers, time and money.”

The first two Hyundai trucks — an dump truck and a dry box van with lift are due to arrive at the firm’s showrooms in St John’s Road, Pembroke, in November.

Mr Smith added that Hyundai were able to customise basic trucks with a variety of bodies suitable for a variety of roles, including delivery, food and construction.

And he predicted a boost in the construction industry over the next two years would fuel demand for heavier vehicles.

Mr Smith said: “The company foresees that most of the Hyundai commercial vehicle retail business will be custom order because each of these vehicles can be customised to fulfil a variety of different functions.”

He added that the range included refrigerated trucks, insulated vehicles, dry or bottle carriers, as well as garbage, water, cement mixer, crane and flatbed vehicles. And the trucks come with a two-year/50,0000km warranty.

The firm will also offer discounts for fleet orders and special fleet maintenance contracts. Special vehicle and fleet orders are expected to take around three months to fill.

Mr Smith said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer Hyundai heavy vehicles to our clientele.

“This new offering is not only testament of Hyundai’s commitment to the Bermuda marketplace, but it also reflects our confidence in the strength and reliability of our Hyundai vehicles.”
