Shipping schedule shaken up by Gonzalo

Swift turnaround: The Bermuda Islander container ship is expected to deliver its cargo and leave today

The Island’s shipping industry is already making plans for the arrival of Hurricane Gonzalo.

The Bermuda Islander is expected to arrive in Hamilton tomorrow, but she will be making a swift turn around and leaving the same day.

Once her 100 or so containers have been unloaded the container ship will head straight back out to sea to avoid the incoming weather system.

Meanwhile the cable ship, Teneo, arrived in Dockyard yesterday for what was expected to be a five-day stop to pick up cable.

But if Gonzalo continues to make a beeline for the Island the ship could head out to sea to avoid the worst of the impact.

At present the incoming hurricane is unlikely to affect the cruise schedule.

The Aidaluna arrives in the West End today and will depart as per her original schedule this evening.

And at the moment the Norwegian Dawn is still expected to arrive in Dockyard on Sunday, while the Insignia is on schedule to arrive in Hamilton on the same stay. However this may change depending on the after effects of Hurricane Gonzalo.
