America’s Cup trophy pays visit to Appleby

Warm welcome: Appleby employees turned out in force to greet the arrival of the America's Cup trophy at their offices

The historic America’s Cup has paid a visit to the event’s official legal team.

The cup, known as the “Auld Mug”, was shown off at law firm Appleby, with staff given the chance to get up close to the trophy.

Appleby managing partner Kieran Bell said: “We were thrilled to have the America’s Cup trophy visit our offices and to see in person the historic silver trophy which embodies the sport of sailing around the world.”

The trophy arrived at Appleby’s offices in Victoria Street, Hamilton, last Friday, accompanied by the America’s Cup Event Authority chief of development Steven Roberts and Golden Gate Yacht Club commodore Norbert Bajurin.

The pair spoke to staff about the 2017 competition and the history of the racing series, which dates back to 1851.

Ms Bell said: “I’d like to thank Steven Roberts and Commodore Norbert Bajurin for their time and bringing us this special and unforgettable experience.”
