Deloitte awards scholarship

Professional services firm Deloitte has awarded a two-year scholarship worth up to $40,000 as part of its effort to attract young Bermudians into business.

The winner of the annual award for this year is Chelsea Smith, who is studying for a Bachelor of management and organsational studies degree at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

Deloitte’s Bermuda CEO John Johnston said: “Deloitte is a leader in developing the best talent globally and in Bermuda we’re committed to investing in future leaders through the Deloitte scholarship.

“I an delighted to congratulate Chelsea on receiving this year’s award.

“We applaud her achievements to date and her engagement with the community and wish her every success as she pursues her studies.”

The schoarship runs over two years.

Ms Smith is in the second year of her studies. She is involved in a number of business-related organisations at her university, while her community involvement has included raising money for charities and volunteer work.

Mr Johnston added that Deloitte backed both undergraduate and postgraduate students with funding for overseas studies in accounting, actuarial and other-business related studies.

And he said that he firm also offed the Deloitte Exclusive Experience Programme (DEEP) — a chance for students to hone their skills and experience the firm’s culture as interns during the summer months.
