RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd hosted 42 female students from eight senior schools at a career day and mentoring event.

The event was co-ordinated by the Bermudian reinsurer’s Women’s Forum, an employee resource group focusing on providing activities and resources that empower women.

Participating schools included Berkeley Institute, Bermuda High School, Bermuda Institute, CedarBridge Academy, Mount St. Agnes, Saltus Grammar School, Somersfield Academy and Warwick Academy.

“Our goal is for the girls to leave with a good understanding of our industry and the various career opportunities that are available in reinsurance,” said Ross Curtis, chief underwriting officer at RenaissanceRe.”

During the Career Day event, women at RenaissanceRe shared their insights into the reinsurance industry, outlined various job roles at the company, offered tips for interviewing, and highlighted skills students will need to develop to be successful in the corporate world.

Emma Lopez, vice-president, underwriting operations at RenRe and member of the Women’s Forum, said: “The event provides a valuable opportunity for the girls to learn about a variety of career paths and consider the skills and experiences they may want to pursue during their educational journey.”

Students and school career counsellors were also able to network with women at RenRe who offered insight into their work in areas such as office management, claims, finance, human resources, information technology, legal, marketing and underwriting. Leah Dean, senior vice-president, group human resources, said: “By introducing young women to career paths and opportunities that they might not otherwise consider, we are taking steps to attract more women to careers in underwriting, the law, and technology as well as the reinsurance industry as a whole.”
