WiRe to host boardroom diversity panel

Diversity panel: Rochelle Simons. chairwoman of the IoD Bermuda branch

Women in Reinsurance (WiRe), the professional organisation for women working in the reinsurance sector, plans to host a panel on the topic of diversity in the boardroom.

The “Breaking Board” panel will include Rochelle Simons, chairwoman, Institute of Directors Bermuda Branch, Fiona Luck, retired chief of staff at XL Catlin, and NED of the BMA and HSBC Bermuda, and Tracey Gibbons, senior vice-president of specialty reinsurance at Allied World Re.

The moderator is Stephen Young, chief executive officer of global reinsurance at Sompo International.

The panel is scheduled to take place at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Thursday, January 18, from 5:30pm until 8pm and will be preceded by cocktails and canapés in the lobby.

“WiRe is pleased to kick off 2018 with a panel focused on the role of directors. With the abundance of regulation these days, it is more important than ever that company directors are fully briefed on their roles and responsibilities,” said Julia Mather, head of WiRe’s events team and member of the board.

“We have assembled a phenomenal panel of accomplished women who all have different backgrounds and experiences to offer attendees.

“Ms Simons is the newly appointed chairwoman of the Bermuda branch of the Institute of Directors, an organisation which offers internationally recognised designation for directors.

“Ms Gibbons sits on WiRe’s board and passed the Institute of Directors’ Certificate in company direction with distinction in 2016.

“Ms Luck has vast experience as a director with Bermuda and international companies, within the reinsurance sector and elsewhere. We have asked Stephen Young, who is the latest addition to WiRe’s Board, to moderate.”

While the panel is being held specifically for members, WiRe recognises that the topic will be of interest to a wider group in Bermuda and has opened this learning and networking opportunity to all on a first come, first served basis.

Tickets cost $85 and are available by contacting wire@wirebermuda.com
