A Hamilton hotel is to provide a tonic for gin lovers on the island.

Gindulgence will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday on the Regency Terrace at the Hamilton Princess.

Gin importers Burrows Lightbourn, Gosling’s, Discovery Wines, Two Rock Wines and Pitt and Company will be on hand to pour samples of their products. Canapés, music by DJ Chubb and a raffle draw are included in the $30 ticket price.

Alexandra Taflan, sommelier at Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, previously helped to present a gin festival when she worked at Borington Hall Hotel in Plymouth, England.

“A momentum is growing for gin festivals and gin in general,” Ms Taflan says. “Gin is gluten-free, full of botanicals, very light, a refreshing drink, a low-calorie drink. It won’t overpower your cocktail; instead, it will complement it nicely.

“Gin makers are infusing their gins now with rhubarb, cucumber, or ginger. The drink is smoother, more of a crowd-pleaser. There is much more to gin than tonic and a slice of lime.”

Ms Taflan says beer, wine and a Princess signature cocktail will also be available for purchase, as will more substantial food offerings such as fish sandwiches, sliders, and tacos, until 9pm.
