Free fintech training opportunities

The Bermuda Government is to offer two free training and education opportunities in the area of emerging technology.

Amilcar Chavarria, chief executive officer of The FinTech School, will be on-island to lead the free, two-day seminar “Fundamentals of FinTech” on June 24 and 25. The seminar is open to college/university students of any age.

The FinTech School is a San Francisco-based company that was started by serial entrepreneurs and former Wall Street professionals. Their mission is to improve financial literacy, spur economic growth, and bank the unbanked by providing fintech and blockchain training and content to financial institutions, governments, universities and individuals.

The school offers numerous online self-paced courses available to all interested persons in Bermuda. More than 180 people are currently taking advantage of this opportunity, a government spokesperson said.

Government is also offering a free, six-session anti-money laundering compliance course beginning on June 25. The training is offered by Omega One, the first licensed fintech company in Bermuda.

Sessions will be held every Tuesday for six weeks. There are two sessions to choose from: 12.30pm to 1.30pm or 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Participants must attend one session per week for the entire six weeks to complete the course.

The courses are designed to meet the needs of all sectors of the community, irrespective of an individual's experience level, a statement said.

Space is limited and interested persons should go to www.fintech.bm to sign up, or call 294-0655
