A $10,000 scholarship and a $5,000 bursary have been presented by Marshall Diel & Myers Limited.

Shannon Thomas has received the Legal Scholarship Award for 2019, which will assist with the cost of pursuing his legal studies. He is in his second year as a law student at Queen Mary University of London, taking the Senior Status LLB programme and expecting to graduate next year.

The former Saltus student said: “It is truly an honour and a privilege to be awarded with this prestigious scholarship.

“Year after year, this firm has consistently shown a strong willingness to promote the development of prospective Bermudian lawyers and I am happy to say that I am a testament to that.

“I have every intention to continue to work hard and do well to validate the investment this firm has made in me as I embark on my final year of law school.”

Meanwhile, Reid Orchard has received a bursary from MD&M. He is commencing his third and final year at the University of Plymouth, taking the LLB with Business programme, and expects to graduate next year.

He attended Somersfield, and also Millbrook School in New York. He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Marshall Diel & Myers scholarship committee for choosing me to be a recipient of their 2019 bursary award.

“I feel honoured to have such a respected law firm invest in my future, not only financially but empirically. The time I spent at the firm was invaluable towards building the foundation of my legal career.

“I look forward to completing my undergraduate degree and one day returning to Bermuda a qualified solicitor. I wish to thank everyone who has supported me, and I hope to exceed their expectations.”

Katie Tornari, director and member of the scholarship committee said: “We are extremely pleased to award Shannon with this year’s scholarship and Reid with a bursary. Both students impressed us during their work placements with the firm this summer.

“Each of these young men is extremely bright, hardworking with a strong work ethic and I have no doubt that they both have successful legal careers ahead of them. We are delighted to be assisting them in achieving their career goals.”

Marshall Diel & Myers said it strongly believes in supporting young Bermudians who aspire to a career in the legal profession, and is committed to making an investment today to assist in developing tomorrow’s leaders of Bermuda’s legal community.
