Colonial Group International is inviting applications for a student internship programme. The company welcomed 12 students, aged 17 to 21, for its inaugural internship initiative last year.A CGI spokesperson said: “We were delighted with the ability and attitude of our interns from last year. We consider the programme a success that hopefully provided the interns with an enriching experience to aid them in their career.“The internship scheme is aimed at providing a meaningful and holistic summer experience for the students, while allowing our staff to develop through mentorship and connecting with a younger generation of Bermudians.”CGI said it has ten places available for the ten-week programme, which will provide interns with exposure and insight into the functions of a local insurance company. Each student will also be given a mentor and can expect to engage in various team-building, networking and community service initiatives, the company said. The first interns taken on by CGI had frequent “lunch and learns”, a team-building day at Outward Bound and a fireside chat with CGI’s group general counsel, the company said. In addition, they were divided into two teams for a group project to research and then present their solutions to the question, “How can CGI leverage technology to improve customer and internal relations?” Their work culminated in presentations to each other and CGI management. To qualify for the programme, students must be enrolled at an accredited college or university, have strong communication skills, demonstrate a sound and reliable work ethic, have excellent attention to detail with good organisational, research and analytical skills, with the ability to take the initiative. For more information on the CGI internship programme, contact CGI human resources via email at internship@colonial.bm.
