Digicel said to explore network-sharing deal

Digicel: reported to be in discussions over a potential network-sharing deal in an unnamed country

Digicel is discussing a network-sharing partnership with a rival in one of the 32 jurisdictions in which it operates, the Irish Times has reported.

The telecoms group, which operates in Bermuda as well as in 31 other locales across the Caribbean, Central America and Pacific islands, is said to be keen to reboot cash levels in order to deal with its almost $7 billion debt.

The Irish Times reported that the company’s cash level slid to $126 million in December from $180 million at the end of the third quarter of 2019, and from $214 million earlier in the year.

Company executives on a call with bondholders confirmed the network joint venture talks without identifying the market that is subject to the plan, the newspaper reported, adding that a network sharing accord would be a first for the group.

A request to Digicel for comment was not replied to by press time.
