The Institute of Directors Bermuda has congratulated Denton Williams, chief executive of the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda, on the achievement of the Certificate in Company Direction designation. Branch chairwoman Rochelle Simons, said: “We are delighted to welcome Denton to the CICD community. He joins the 70 experienced and aspiring directors who have completed director certification.”Mr Williams said: “I am pleased to have achieved the Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors, with the training being delivered via the Bermuda branch. “My goal in taking the course was to enhance my professional skills and to ensure that I provide the highest levels of corporate governance for any organisation that I am involved with. The experience was very rewarding, and I’m happy to note that I have already implemented many of the valuable principles that I learnt. “As Bermuda is a widely recognised and respected jurisdiction for its high degree of business compliance, regulation and transparency, I encourage anyone seeking to provide modern governance to corporate entities or otherwise, to take the course and help shape Bermuda’s future for the better.” The timing of the announcement is coupled with the IoD Bermuda announcing changes in delivery of the September 2020 CICD and diploma modules to registered delegates. Mrs Simons said: “The IoD has suspended face to face professional development programmes until further notice, ensuring the wellbeing of members, clients and staff as paramount. All modules will be delivered virtually.”She continued: “The virtual classroom courses are designed and delivered by directors for directors. The IoD has brought the in-training room experience to life as closely as possible — designing and delivering exceptional virtual experiences which focus on four key areas: 1, Interaction with the course leader 2, Connection with other participants3, Engagement with the platform 4, Seamless production support from our team of trained experts The September 2020 Bermuda calendar includes:• Two-day role of the director and the board international, on September 21 and 22, which is sold out;• Three-day strategy for directors on September 23, 24, and 25, which has one vacant seat, and • Diploma in company direction on September 28, 29 and 30, which is only available to delegates who have completed the four modules in the Certificate in Company Direction programme.Mrs Simons added: “We are all disappointed, yet understanding, that the structure of the programme has been moved to an online platform, especially the London based course leaders who were looking forward to travelling to Bermuda in September. “We also acknowledge however, that the development of the online platform supports delegates to complete designations on their original 2020 timelines. We don’t know when face to face training will return.”She added: “In addition to the certification programmes, IoD members will also be aware of the extensive CPD, informational and skills building webinars and associated network opportunities that are now available through the online platform. “In fact, the Bermuda branch hosted a complimentary crisis management webinar on 18 August which featured a subject matter expert whose work was featured in the broader platform. Covid-19 disruption to business in one area may create opportunities for expanded service offerings in other areas.”For additional information, contact iodbermudabranch@gmail.com
