A new take on Island life is the theme of artist Melony Kendell's new show, which opened last night.

The artist's show, entitled 'Recent Oil Paintings by Melony Kendell', opened at Reid Street's Rock Island Coffee house last evening.

Explaining her journey as an artist, she said: "Basically I've continued to paint and I'm still enjoying it. I was inspired by the response of my last show.

"Every time I paint I am learning about the paints and the light."

Most of the paintings are of Ms Kendell's neighbourhood, which is Hinson's Island in addition other subjects include this year's Newport to Bermuda Yacht Race.

The show will run until December 24.
