Group seeks funds
Daniel's Head, Sandys Action Group is facing another obstacle.
It needs some $46,000 a year for operating expenses.
While declining to comment in detail on the matter which is sill under negotiation with Government and the Bermuda Land Development Company, the group faxed a statement to The Royal Gazette saying it is now having the draft lease for the building reviewed by a lawyer.
It is also seeking financial assistance for the operating cost.
The Youth Centre, headed by community activists Gerald Fubler, first made news when members of the group's junior committee called a press conference in May to publicly blast Government for a lack of interest in the programme.
The public appeal for Government's help resulted in the eventual offering of building No. 2 located on the Daniel's Head property.
Yesterday Minister of Youth and Sport David Dyer reiterated Government was steadfast in their support of the group.
"We have said that we will help in any way, shape or form we can,'' he said.
The Minister added the group needed only to come up with a precise figure for the operating cost.
Since that has been done, he said, it was just a matter of all the parties involved sitting down and further ironing out the details to find out what role Government will play.
