Logo competition art goes on display

Zoo (BAMZ), Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS), and Friends of the Bermuda Aquarium (Friends) Logo Competition.

The artwork is now on display at City Hall and the public are welcomed to see the exhibits and cast their votes at the Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery (BSofA) on the top floor of City Hall in Hamilton.

The gallery is open free of charge, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

and the Logo Competition will be on display until this Saturday.

Among the entries are the works of professional graphic designers, school children and prisoners from the Westgate Correctional Facility.

One winning design, selected as the best of the student entries, will receive $500 whether or not it becomes the new BAMZ, BZS and Friends logo.

And if it does become the new logo, the student will receive an additional $500. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to an adult entrant only if his or her artwork is selected to be the new logo.

Votes cast at the BSofA Gallery will be tallied and will help a committee at BMAZ, BZS and Friends to determine the outcome of the competition.

The committee will discuss the merits of the entries that receive substantial numbers of votes to decide if any will replace the existing logo.

All entries are being measured against the existing logo which has been in place for about 20 years.

The prize money for the competition is provided by Butterfield and Vallis and the Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son, Ltd.

Additional support has come from the BSofA and Masterworks Foundation, who promoted the competition to their memberships.

A reception tomorrow night for judging the competition entries is supported by the Bermuda Brewing Company, Burrows Lightbourne, John Barritt & Son Ltd. and the Supermart.
