Negotiations went right up until 5 p.m. yesterday and it has been agreed that the BBC can use one feed called "Spirit of the Games'' which will be shown at 7 p.m.

"It's a 45-minute prime time package,'' he explained. "(Yesterday) we excerpted it just to take a look at it. (Today) we will go full blast with it for the full 45 minutes.

"(Today) they are also making way for us to use a morning prime show that begins at 11 a.m. and is a two hour telecast. They also have a two hour games wrap up that they will also make available.'' Mr. Richardson would not say how much these new programmes would cost. He said that the cost to buy more Olympic programmes from Canada however, "would be prohibitive.'' Moreover he said that the BBC was not reacting to the steady tide of criticism of NBC's star-spangled Olympic programming.

He said the BBC was concerned about the overwhelming American slant before the games even began but they had only made headway yesterday.

"Before the criticism we were working to get an alternative package but the (Canadian) producers were only able to clear the feed (yesterday).
