Plenty of options to treat your mum this weekend

Sunday brunch is a popular outing in Bermuda and on Mother’s Day it becomes even more so, with many restaurants pulling out the stops to cater to large family groups.Fourways Inn has already received reservations for 690 people.“We will have seatings at 10.30, 1.00 and 2.30 and also at 3.00,” said waiter Peter Kovacs.“We’re trying to avoid it getting very crowded at the same time. That is how our expectation was, Mother’s Day brunch is usually this busy. For some people it is an annual thing to come to Mother’s Day brunch here. We are going to have a double-line buffet with all the regular items we have for brunch as well as additional items.”Cost is $49.95 with 17 percent gratuity.Ocean Echoes at The Reefs is completely booked, a staff member said.“We have three seatings, starting at 11.30am and finishing at 3pm. We’ve been sold out since last week. I’m not surprised, when we have our Easter brunch and Mother’s Day brunch we’re always busy. We get a lot of repeat clientele.”Cost is $55 for adults with 17 percent gratuity.Henry VIII Restaurant also reported strong bookings for their two seatings.Brunch there costs $45 and includes 15 percent gratuity.Diners may choose anywhere from 11.30am to 2.30pm. Brunch includes a breakfast station, appetisers, soup and salad, a carvery, hot selections and desserts. They, too, cater to a number of groups who come every year.Blu Bar and Grill at Belmont Hills has just a few spots left. “We have close to 200 people for two seatings at 11.30am and 1.30pm,” said supervisor Jenny Balgua.“Some of the bookings have been for a month in advance. We only have outside seating left but not for big groups. It depends on the times as well.”The cost of the brunch at Blu is $47.75 for adults; half-price for children.Tom Moore’s Tavern is offering a wide selection for their lunch which starts at 11.30am and costs $45 per person plus 17 percent gratuities.There are still some spots available according to owner, Bruno Fiocca.“This is not something we do all the time, but we serve lunch on Mother’s Day and Easter. Hopefully people will indulge, but at the moment our popularity is more for dinner.”The Beach House at Blackbeard’s is offering an a la carte menu between 10am and 4pm.“Mother’s Day will always be popular, we’ll be booked up,” said restaurant manager Alick Burrows.“We’ll be serving breakfast and lunch with a Mother’s Day special, including a carnation for the mothers.”Chopsticks is offering a special tasting menu until the end of May.The menu lets you sample a total of eight dishes (one soup, three starters, two mains, one side dish and one dessert) and is for a minimum of two people at a cost of $45 per person. As a special bonus, for a party of eight or more eating from this menu, the mother’s dinner is on them, excluding drinks and gratuities.Lido at Elbow Beach is also fully booked for Mother’s day with two seatings - at 11am and 1.30pm - accommodating about 250 people each. Their price is $50 per person with 17 percent gratuity. Children ten and under eat for free.
