Kendra Earls commissioned to capture Bermuda Festival artists at work

It’s not an easy task to capture the movement of performance art in a mosaic, but local artist Kendra Earls proved she was up for the challenge. She was recently commissioned by the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts to create art in honour of this year’s event — which will see a cappella group Voces 8 and dance-illusion company MOMIX Botanica take to the stage.Ms Earls’ work will be on display at the Festival Impressions exhibit, opening this Friday at the Bermuda Society of the Arts. The exhibit will also feature a diverse range of works by other artists.Emma Ingham will sketch some of this year’s festival performers as they rehearse. The pieces will then be displayed as part of the exhibit; from time to time she will also work in-situ at the gallery, sketching people as they peruse the exhibition.Exhibition organiser Rebecca Younie said: “Emma’s in-situ work is really a marriage of the performing arts and static works of art.“Visitors to Festival Impressions will be able to watch her in action and may even have their images form part of the exhibit.”Festival Impressions opens at the BSoA on Friday from 5pm until 7pm.The exhibition runs until March 6 from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday; and 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.Useful website: www.bermudafestival.org.
