Fundraiser should be excellent

Garden club: Remember, the early bird catches the worm

The Garden Club of Bermuda is renowned for the excellence of its various fund raisers, and this weekend’s plant, craft and bake sale in the Horticultural Hall of the Botanical Gardens will be no exception.

Club members are well-known for their imaginative Christmas crafts, many of which incorporate local floral materials, and all of which provide a unique and distinctive touch to festive home decorating.

The members have been busy for months making this year’s crafts, and “they are all gorgeous, and very Christmassy”, publicity officer Mrs Joy Nash assured.

Plants, carefully raised to look their very best, are always a popular favourite, and eagerly sought after by home gardeners, so there is good news for them.

“We will have a wide range of plants, some of them very unusual,” Mrs Nash said.

Aficionados of Garden Club sales also know that their baked goods are among the very best. Delicious choices, beautifully presented in festive wrap, make special treats — and tasty Christmas gifts.

With no pun intended, Mrs Nash confirmed, “Our bake sale offerings go like hot cakes.”

Of course, the “three staples” of these sales are just a part of the overall ambience, which this year will include enhancing the setting with Christmas music, fairy lights, and refreshments.

“It will be a lovely day out, as we are planning to provide coffee, tea and some refreshments on little tables, if anyone feels like some sustenance and a sit-down,” Mrs Nash said.

Be advised, however, that it is the early shopper who gets the widest choices, so the publicity officer strongly recommended turning up sooner rather than later.

The sale is tomorrow from 9am to 12.30pm, with all proceeds going toward the Garden Club’s scholarship fund and community projects.
