Visiting specialist to hold a discussion on fertility issues

Are you suffering with fertility issues? Paperwhites, a peer-led infertility support group, would like to invite you to a free information session, Interested in IVF?, with fertility specialist Dr. Matan Yemini from the Diamond Institute in New Jersey on Thursday, April 3rd.

This will be in the first floor conference room of King Edward Memorial Hospital from 6pm until 7.30pm and Dr. Yemini, a reproductive endocrinologist, will be talking about all that is involved with In Vitro Fertilization. 2014 marks the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Sri Swami Satchidananda, world-renowned spiritual leader and founder of Integral Yoga International. Swami Asokananda and Nischala Joy Devi, presenters at the Bermuda Yoga Festival, with Bhaskar Deva and longtime local students will be hosting The Life & Teachings of a Modern Yoga Master at The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street on Tuesday, April 1st. From 5.30pm to 7.30pm, there will be a showing of LivingYoga and personal sharings of his life and influence on modern Yoga today. This event is free with light refreshments. The St. George’s Foundation invite you to join them and special guests, World Heritage Watercolour, for a Wet Paint Auction and Reception at the World Heritage Centre, Penno’s Wharf, St. George’s on Saturday, April 5th. World Heritage Watercolor is a Rhode Island-based group that provides artists with the opportunity to explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world and capture the extraordinary beauty and culture through plein air painting.

On April 4th and 5th, this group of 12 artists, including celebrated Newport watercolourist Richard Grosvenor and local artists will set up all around the town to paint the beauty of the cobbled alleys, historic properties and spectacular landscapes. From 6pm until 8pm, the works of art will be auctioned off at the Wet Paint Auction and Reception to raise funds for the St. George’s Foundation. The evening will also include music, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 for St. George’s Foundation members, $25 for non-members and available from www.BDAtix.bm. As part of their Sexual Assault Awareness Month observances in April, the Women’s Resource Centre will be holding the Ladies Only event Denim, Diamonds, Dinner and Dessert on Saturday, April 5th. This will be from 7pm at the Police Recreation Club in Devonshire and attendees are encouraged to bring at least one young lady aged 15 years and older (although this is not mandatory) for a Reaching Back to our Future open discussion regarding self respect, relationship etiquette and what to accept and expect in life. Celebrating black women in film, Moja Co. Productions in conjunction with the Chewstick Foundation proudly presents the inaugural Black Woman’s Mini Video/Film Fest 2014 at Chewstick on Friday, April 11th, Saturday, April 19th, and Friday and Saturday, April 25th and 26th. This dynamic Fest will highlight two black female writer/directors with a double feature from 7.30pm. Bermudian filmmaker Rosheena Beek will debut her powerful and enlightening film, Before We Were Man, posing the question, what if you had the power to choose your mama?

The second film will be Daughters of the Dust, written, directed and produced by American filmmaker, Julie Dash. To accent these events, there will be an Art Show from 6pm on screening nights, with featured artists including local phenom Kendra Earls, talented art student Zianna Rubaine, who has already had her first solo show at Bermuda College Student Art Gallery, and international artist Patrick-Earl Barnes, who has dedicated a great part of his repertoire to the upliftment of women. The North Village Community Club (NVCC) invite you to come out to their Trivia and Quest Night at Place’s Place, Dundonald Street on Saturday, April 12th. Hosted by Quiz Master Nadanja Bailey, the evening will begin at 7pm and will include NVCC trivia, Bermuda trivia, world trivia, fun prizes, free hors d’oeuvres, drinks on sale, and for the finale, a mini scavenger hunt that is sure to be unlike any scavenger hunt you’ve ever participated in. The cost is $20 per person for teams of 5 and is for adults only. There are a limited number of teams so you are invited to book your spot early to avoid disappointment. This event is a fundraiser for the Junior Netball Team’s tour to Disney’s International Youth Netball Tournament in Orlando, Florida in October 2014. Echo Entertainment is calling all young people aged 14 to 17 to the Echo Launch Party at Muse Skybar on Saturday, April 19th.
