A show guaranteed to generate app-lause

In Motion's 17th Annual Dance Showcase called 'There's An App For That' is continuing tonight, tomorrow and Saturday.

If you want to catch up on global affairs, make a mouth-watering meal for your family or brush up on your salsa dance moves — there’s an app for that!

In Motion School of Dance is paying tribute to all the apps and technologies that make this era such an exciting one, through its 17th Annual Dance Showcase, happening this week.

There’s An App For That! will be showing at the Earl Cameron Theatre in City Hall tonight, tomorrow and twice on Saturday.

“From Google to Apple, Shazam to Free Flow, we’ve created a programme that has been getting rave reviews and much app-plause,” said school director Lizz Pimentel.

“Featuring music ranging from classical to 70s soul, Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga, this years show ticks off all the musical boxes.

“The costumes are amazing as always and every year the staff have a ball picking them out. Many a night is spent pouring over the costume books to choose a costume that will make our dancers shine and wow the audience.”

She said the school prides itself on its ability to present shows that the dancers themselves can be proud of.

“We approach our shows as professional productions and the students have risen to the occasion as we knew they would,” she said. “We believe all dancers can excel if they are given a positive outlet and a nurturing environment.”

This year Ms Pimentel has ushered in a number of big changes to the school, which can be seen reflected on stage in this year’s dance showcase.

With help from a new ballet mistress, the dancers have been able to learn a new style and many of their students have made “big strides in their technique and performance”.

“This year’s ballet pieces are bigger, more theatrical, and truly a pleasure to watch,” Ms Pimentel said.

“Additionally In Motion for the first time has added street style as a class. It’s been a big hit with full classes and big smiles.”

She said the dance school has made it a priority to stay on top of new trends in style and technique and tries to avoid recycling old ideas.

“This show is a culmination of those principles and it’s exciting to see local dancers demand a higher standard of themselves,” she added.

Tickets, $29 for students, $39 for adults and $65 for patrons, are available at ptix.bm.
