criminals had been able to hide behind the PLP's election victory.

Former Assistant Commissioner Mr. Perinchief was speaking as MPs from both parties condemned yesterday's double armed robbery.

The Pembroke West Central MP also criticised the new-look Bermuda Police Service.

He said switching the emphasis "from enforcement to service'' had given criminals "some small signal''.

But he added: "The message must be sent that violence must not be tolerated.

"I do believe that in the new Bermuda, criminals have taken some small refuge in the euphoria that has ensued.

"But we will not tolerate these crimes of violence.'' Fellow Government MPs Dale Butler, Randy Horton, Delaey Robinson and Lois Browne Evans -- acting Public Safety Minister -- also spoke to condemn the robberies.

Opposition MPs John Barritt and Erwin Adderley sent their sympathies to the targeted firms.

But the news was brought to the House of Assembly by Shadow Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley, who said all MPs should stand together and say "enough is enough''.
