Thieves target jewellers

Thieves targeted E.R.Aubrey jewellers on Tuesday, stealing a gold chain with a crucifix set with fake diamonds.

Police say two men entered the Front Street, Hamilton store at 5.30 p.m. and tried to buy several items of jewellery with a credit card. The sales assistant asked for identification to complete the transaction, which the men failed to provide. The assistant then noticed the chain was missing from the items being purchased and that both men had left the store.

The employee chased after one of the men but he escaped along Court Street.

The first suspect is described as dark skinned, 5 ft tall, of medium build, and wore a bandanna, a white long sleeved T-shirt, and blue jeans with white stripes on the rear pocket. He has braided hair and a tattoo on his neck.

The second man is described as light brown, 6 ft and of slim build. He wore a dark plaid shirt and a gold chain. He has reddish hair and narrow facial features.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit on 295 0011.

Meanwhile, burglars stole a laptop, digital camera, iPod and X-Box 360 from a house in Smith’s.

The break-in happened on Tuesday at a house in Kilderry Drive. A Compaq laptop computer, Canon PowerShot digital camera, iPod, Movado watch, X-Box 360 controller and several video games were taken. Also on Tuesday, Police received a report of a burglary in Keith Hall Road, Warwick. A quantity of cash was stolen.

At 1.40 p.m. the same day, Police attended a reported burglary in Barnes Valley, Paget. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant, who stated that sometime between 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, his garage was broken into. The burglar stole two Pinnacle Marine fishing rods, two Shimano Triton reels and a beige tackle box. Inquiries are continuing.
