Gombeys and floats delight hospital patients

H & H Gombays lively up the Pre Bermuda day parade,The Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute will hosted a “pre Bermuda day parade” celebrating the theme of 'old Bermuda

Hospital patients who will not be able to attend the Bermuda Day Parade were able to take part in one of their own yesterday.

Up to 1,500 people turned out to watch Gombeys and a host of floats in the Pre-Bermuda Day Parade at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.

About 50 patients participated in the show, while many more watched as the entertainment unfolded.

Hundreds of members of the public also joined in the fun of what is now recognised as an annual celebration in its own right.

The theme of the event was “Old Bermuda”, with floats demonstrating the way people used to live, including old-fashioned shops and slavery commemorations.

A string of marching bands, such as the Prospect Twirlers Majorettes and the Hot Peppers Majorettes, added to the entertainment.

Hospital activities co-ordinator Juliette Basden said: “A lot of our clients can not go to the parade, so we bring it to them.

“I’m pleased with the number of people who have come along. It seems to grow every year.”

One patient who was watching the parade said: “It’s good to see all the different floats in the parade.

“I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks.”
