A car and a taxi collided at the junction of North Shore Road and Harlem Heights Road in Hamilton Parish.

Police say the accident happened as the taxi travelled west on North Shore Road, while the car was heading north on Harlem Heights Road.

The car caught on fire and was extinguished by Southside Fire personnel. The driver of the taxi, a 54-year-old Hamilton Parish man, was not injured.

However, the driver of the car, a 26-year-old Hamilton Parish woman, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

She was taken to Hamilton Police Station where she was later detained for refusing to give a breath analysis sample.

The woman was not injured in the collision.
