BREAKING NEWS: Garbage collection disrupted
A work to rule by waste collection staff is disrupting garbage collection across the Island.
However a Government spokesman said they hoped that a backlog of garbage which has built up by the roadside will all be collected today and tomorrow.
The spokesman said: “The Ministry of Works and Engineering would like to advise the public that there continues to be a disruption in normal garbage collection due to apparent work to rule conditions with some waste collection staff.
“As a result not all garbage has been collected on the normal collection day. Waste collection staff will be collecting the remainder of the garbage in the West End this morning and will be moving on to the Eastern End this afternoon.
“The remainder of the Eastern End collection is expected to be cleared tomorrow.”
The dispute started last week when garbage collectors walked out of work. It is not yet know what the dispute is about.
The Government spokesman added: “The Ministry seeks the public's patience as it works with the Bermuda Industrial Union to resolve outstanding issues.
“We will notify the public with any updates regarding garbage collection as we prepare for the May 24 holiday.''
