The company announced yesterday that there has been a global recall of the General Electric built-in dishwashers September 1997 to December 2001.

The brands affected are Etema, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint and Sears-Kenmore.

The appliances are being recalled because they may be a fire hazard

Tom Nelmes, vice president of HWP’s Electrical Division, said: “The US Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with GE, have announced a recall of certain GE built-in dishwashers due to a problem with certain units whereby liquid rinse-aid may leak from the dispenser onto the dishwasher’s internal wiring, which may result in an electrical short and overheating.”

HWP is the only authorised General Electric agent in Bermuda.

Mr. Nelmes urged clients who believe they have a GE built-in dishwasher to go to www.geappliances.com/products/recall/dw07/ or contact the HWP HomeZone at 295-6464.

He said: “Once you have identified that you have a recalled GE built-in dishwasher, we will direct you to a member of our service team who will conduct a visit to your home and make the necessary repairs to the dishwasher.

“For consumers who have purchased their dishwasher through HomeZone, there will be no charge for the repairs. For consumers who have not purchased their dishwasher through HomeZone, we will work with you to find an amicable solution.

“All service visits will be conducted as expeditiously as possible based on service team availability.”
