Couple and cat rescued at sea

Two Canadian citizens on a sail boat that left Bermuda December 8 were forced to abandon ship 480 miles southeast of the Island.A Bermuda Maritime Operations spokesman said the craft, the Blitz, had been the victim of the same bad weather seen over recent days in Bermuda. The couple’s intended destination had been St Martin in the Caribbean.“They were taking on water, had damage to the mast and the propellor, and in co-ordination with ourselves they were taken aboard a passing cargo vessel that got their communication,” the spokesman said. The unnamed crew, along with their cat, were picked up around 1pm yesterday, and are now on their way to Rotterdam in the Netherlands aboard the CMA CJM Fortuna.
