Alert raised for yacht believed headed to Bermuda
Bermuda Maritime Operations is attempting to contact a yacht approaching the Island in the storm.
A spokesman said the
Carefree, with two on board, is believed to be encountering severe weather.
“We've not received a distress call or any contact from the vessel. It was 220 miles south-southwest of Bermuda a few days ago, but given their position we believe they may be encountering difficult conditions with the storm.”
Maritime Operations is sending urgent broadcasts to the area in the hope of contacting the boat or other vessels in the area.
Govt. reissues holiday advisory
With Christmas falling on a weekend, Government has issued a repeat notice of public holidays.
Government offices will be closed on Monday, December 27.
Since Boxing Day falls on a Sunday, the following Tuesday, December 28 has been deemed a public holiday.
Because New Year's Day falls on a Saturday, Government offices are scheduled to close on Monday, January 3.
Police report two homes burgled
Two homes have been reported burgled, with electronic devices stolen in both cases.
A residence at West End Road in Sandys was broken into during the day on Monday, with a flat screen TV, two BlackBerry phones and an iPod taken.
A house on First Avenue, Devonshire was reported broken into on Sunday, with a black XBox and games stolen, as well as a BlackBerry phone.
