A US Coast Guard plane is due to resume searching today for a boat that's gone missing with two local sailors onboard.

The 31-foot sailing vessel Carefree IV has not been heard of since Saturday when it asked a passing commercial ship for food and water. It was en route from the Dominican Republic but may be experiencing engine problems or trouble due to severe weather.

The vessel was located 210 nautical miles to the south-southwest on Saturday but Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre has been unable to contact it since. No distress alert has been issued by the vessel but the authorities are concerned.

A USCG C130 aircraft from Elizabeth City, North Carolina spent five hours yesterday searching a 10,000-mile area.
