Police investigate shooting near schools

A number of shots were fired in the street outside a church and close to two schools this morning.A 26-year-old male has since been arrested in connection with the shooting.The gun was fired outside St Mary's Church, in Warwick.A Police spokesman said: "It appears no-one was injured."He also assured parents that students at nearby TN Tatem Middle School and Warwick pre-school were safe.Acting Superintendent Anthony Mouchette said: "Shots were fired in the area of Hayward's supermarket at 12.13pm. The information we now have is that they were fired from a moving bike with two people on board. No injuries have been reported yet."The Warwick pre-school is on lock down and our officers have gone and inspected it. No-one is injured and the children are safe."A Police spokesman said: "Police responded to a report of gunshots outside Haywards supermarket, in Warwick."A short time later, a vehicle of interest in the inquiry failed to stop for police on Cedar Hill and both vehicles were then involved in a collision. There are no reported injuries at this time."This afternoon, the Principal of Warwick pre-school, Diana Dill, said the students were fine."They aren't really aware of what has happened," she said. "We have emergency procedures and it worked today. You have to be buzzed into our school and we have video cameras. Our school was locked down and Police officers vested."Everyone is fine here."She added that numerous parents called today to see if their children were ok. The school caters to 80 four-year-olds.The road was closed, but has now re-opened.
