Boxer picks the wrong opponent

A boxer celebrating a victorious bout picked the wrong fight later when he kicked a Policeman in the groin after being warned against littering and flirting with the officer's female partner.

John Glasgow, 20, of Keith Hall Road, Warwick, was fined $300 on Friday after pleading guilty with an explanation to assaulting an officer and using threatening behaviour.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Police saw Glasgow outside the Emporium Building on Front Street placing a Heineken beer bottle on the side of the road as he got into a taxi.

The officers told him he could be arrested for littering and drinking in public.

Glasgow then told the female officer "she was one sexy thing", and that "she could sit on his lap".

After he was warned about his comments, kicked a male officer in the groin.

Glasgow, who had been in a boxing match that night, denied saying those words, but said: "I don't know how she got the exact wording, I said it quietly.

"I won my fight and I was a bit drunk, I think that I was still hyped up from winning my fight. I apologise to the court."

Bartender over limit

A bartender who was three times over the legal drink driving limit rode the wrong way down a street, fell off his bike and then asked Police officers not to report him.

Naeen Holdipp, 20, of Crossland Lane, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired on August 23 last year.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told Magistrates' Court on Friday that plain-clothed Police saw Holdipp ride the wrong way down Parliament Street and then fall off his bike at 2.30 a.m.

He then asked the officers not to call the Police, but he was arrested on the spot.

Holdipp gave a breath sample which read 248 millilitres in 100 milligrammes of blood. The legal limit is 80 ml in 80 mg.

Holdipp said: "In all honesty, that was stupid on my part. I work as a bartender and people buy me shots."

Acting Senior Magistrate Tyrone Chin suggested he should either get another job or refuse the shots, fined him $1,000 or 90 days in prison, and banned him from driving for a year.

Police assault denied

A Devonshire teenager has denied five charges of assaulting Police officers.

Shaki Allan Minors, 19, of Alexandria Road, was charged on Thursday with unlawfully wounding a Police officer, assault with bodily harm against a second officer and assault on a third in Pembroke on December 22, Magistrates' Court heard.

He also faces two charges of assault and assault causing bodily harm against an additional two officers on December 30.

Minors denied all the charges and told Acting Senior Magistrate Tyrone Chin he would be represented by lawyer Larry Mussenden.

Minors was given bail of $2,500 - $500 on each charge - with like surety and will be tried on March 25.

Mr. Chin also imposed a curfew between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Teenager fined $300

A man accused of threatening behaviour was fined $300 in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Anthony Wayne Rocker, 18, of Westdale Lane, Southampton pleaded guilty to uttering threatening words and assaulting a Police officer on Front Street.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Police had seen Rocker fighting with other men on October 26. The Police asked Rocker to calm down, but he continued to curse. He told one officer "wait until I get to see you off duty - I am going to f*** you up". He was then arrested.

Ms Clarke said Rocker had a previous conviction for a similar offence in May 2002, and had been given community service.

Duty counsel Peter Farge said Rocker had gone to the officer involved and apologised.

Acting Senior Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined Rocker $300.
