Another members-only meeting held by the Berkeley Educational Society last night gave rise to more speculation that it is seeking ways of utilising the current school building once it becomes vacant in 2003.

Berkeley is set to move from its St. John's Road, Pembroke location across the street, once the new $70 million school is completed.

But debate has been rampant as to what the existing location will end up being.

Last night a moderate crowd of business men and women, former alumni and ex-educators were tight-lipped about their gathering, telling The Royal Gazette, that it was for members of the society only.

And former Progressive Labour Party stalwart and committee member Austin Thomas would only add: "It's only a meeting to discuss the annual business of the school.

"We are just going over things from the past year that's all it's about."

But, this is the second such low key meeting to be called in two months barring the Press.

And that has caused eyebrows to raise by educational observers, who have repeatedly encouraged The Royal Gazette to attend.

It is understood that the Board of Governors of the school are hoping to keep the current building attached to the history of Berkeley in some way, but no one has been able to agree on anything.

However it is certain that when the transfer is complete in 2003, the building will revert to the hands of Government.
