Belly dancer takes off on new career

Belly dancing lessons learned in Bermuda have led to a new career for a former Island resident.

Susie Young was featured in English local paper The Cambridge Evening News this week offering a six week belly dancing course after she learned the exotic art while living here.

She told the paper: "I took it up five years ago. It's very popular in Bermuda, and it's just a fun way to exercise and lose the pounds you may have put on over Christmas."

Susie wears the traditional costume, the sarongs and coin belt which give belly dancers their traditional jingle-jangle accompaniment said the article.

Sentencing adjourned

Sentencing of a 35-year-old St. George's man had to be postponed in the Supreme Court yesterday after a social report from Court Services failed to be submitted on time.

Troy Oneil Robinson, of Anchorage Lane, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a motor vehicle belonging to Erica Wills on August 22 last year.

Proceedings were adjourned for almost a half an hour after Puisine Judge Charles-Etta Simmons told defence attorney, Elizabeth Christopher to call Court Services to enquire about the missing report.

Court Services assured the court that there would be an enquiry into the missing report and that a new one would be personally hand-delivered in court on February 1 when the case resumes.

Robinson will remain at the Westgate Correctional Facility where his attorney, Ms Christopher told the court he was enrolled in a drug rehabilitation programme.
