The Annual Report 2001 of the Bermuda Housing Corporation was tabled Wednesday in Parliament as Health Minister Nelson Bascome made a ministerial statement on allegations of corruption in the Corporation this week.

The fact that the annual report from BHC had not been presented in the House since 1999 was criticised by Opposition MP Michael Dunkley as he raised a variety of concerns about the Corporation during the budget debate on the Health Ministry.

Mr. Dunkley suggested that not tabling the annual report from BHC within six months of the close of the financial year was illegal.

In tabling the report however, Mr. Bascome said Government had decided it was unnecessary to present the report in the House until this week but it had been prepared within three months of the end of the year.

"I would like to point out that the audited financial report for the Corporation was signed by the Auditor General on June 29, 2001 - less than three months after the end of the financial year," Mr. Bascome said in his statement on Wednesday.

"As Minister, I have now received approval of Cabinet to table these accounts before the House. I have not found it practicable to do this earlier."

The report highlights the BHC efforts to house 115 families within the 2001 fiscal year.
