Bio station wins approval for staff units

Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) has received in principle approval from the Development Applications Board for new staff accommodation at the Ferry Reach campus

To boost recruiting efforts, BBSR is planning to build 14 units once final plans are approved, according to BBSR director Tony Knap.

"We have a hard time recruiting people because of the high cost of housing here," Mr. Knap said.

"We have salary caps due to our federal mandate and we pay amounts comparable to US salaries because most of our funding is from the US."

The units will offer studio, one and two bedroom apartments situated on the north end of the campus that encompasses 14 acres at Ferry Reach.

"We've decided to bite the bullet because the way to solve the problem is to help people with housing," Mr. Knap added.
