After a few minor glitches and a late arrival, the number seven Blue Angels jet arrived in Bermuda yesterday providing a sneak preview of this summer's planned Bermuda International Air Show.

Airborne Foundation co-founder Kurvin Spence said the number seven jet was unable to arrive at the scheduled time after being delayed because the plane had not received the proper clearance in the US.

The Blue Angels Navy demonstration team is scheduled to perform on June 12 and 13 during the Bermuda International Air Show. This is the first time in many years that the Blue Angels have performed internationally, marketing director Gavin Smith said.

He added that the team did not realise they would need clearance to fly to international countries.

The plane was carrying Maj. Chandler Seagraves who briefed organisers on preparing for the June event.

But despite the planes delay, the members of the Airborne Foundation, who are currently working on receiving charity status, were enthusiastic about the summer air show.

“Were expecting this to be a very good family experience,” said Mr. Spence.

Co-founder Lawrence Scott said the cost of tickets would be low but they hadn't decided on an official price. He said the air show would also feature a 767 aircraft that could become Bermuda's first airline called Air Bermuda.

The Airborne Foundation is hoping to raise awareness among Bermudians about flying and will be raising money to benefit scholarships for flight school.

Mr. Scott said flight school can cost up to $50,000 per student and added that a percentage of the funds raised from the air show would go towards these scholarships.
