A man and a woman were yesterday charged in Magistrates' Court with possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply and for obstructing Police officers.

Middle Road, Southampton, residents Anthony Leroy Richards, 30, and Deeanne Marie Liburd-Mattocks, 29, both pleaded not guilty to the six charges against each of them.

They were each accused of being in possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply, and also for being in possession of cannabis on May 11, 2002.

The pair also denied three other charges of obstruction of two Police officers on the same date. Crown counsel Wayne Caines did not object to bail. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves released them on $5,000 bail each to appear for trial on March 25.

Footballer looks for break on curfew

A young footballer yesterday appealed to a Magistrate to lift his court-imposed curfew lifted so he could attend practice.

Shaki Alan Jay Minors, 20, of Rocky Lane West, Hamilton Parish, was put on curfew by Acting Magistrate Tyrone Chin in December after pleading not guilty to charges of assaulting five Police officers in a gang brawl on Court Street.

Minors was in court yesterday to select whether his case would be heard in Supreme Court or Magistrates' Court.

Minors selected Magistrates' Court, but asked Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves if he would allow him to be out until 10 p.m. on nights when he had football practice.

Mr. Chin had set the matter down for trial on March 25, but imposed a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew on Minors.

Mr. Greaves said: “I do not interfere with the judgments of other magistrates. It is not that long, it will be over in March.”

But Devonshire Cougars player Minors told Mr. Greaves that the football season will be just about over then.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines said Minors may have great potential as a footballer, but he is alleged to have kicked a Police officers tooth out during a street fight in Hamilton.

Mr. Greaves denied the application.

Woman takes fine over ‘all inclusive'

A woman yesterday turned down a Magistrate's offer of an “all-inclusive” vacation in prison.

Jennifer Collins Franks, 31, of Paget, pleaded guilty to telling Police officers to “go f*** themselves” at the Ice Queen takeaway restaurant in Paget on January 20.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves fined her $250 or 40 days in prison.

Franks said: “I need a vacation, but not that way.”

Mr. Greaves told the Scottish bartender: “It's what you people call all inclusive. Free food, drinks, bed, breakfast, dinner basically all round good service. Everybody loves it.”

Franks opted to pay the fine instead.
