Destroyed buses replaced

Seven buses ordered to replace the ones destroyed during an arson attack at a Somerset depot on Easter Sunday are now in operation.

?The seven buses are here,? Daniel Moore, the assistant director of the Public Transportation Board (PTB) said last week. ?The last set of four arrived in late November.?

Mr. Moore said the buses were already being used on various routes.

Mr. Moore said the buses were identical to ones ordered from Germany in 2004.

Although reluctant to say how much the new buses cost, Mr. Moore said it was around the estimated $2.4 million range identified by PTB last year.

In April PTB said its insurance policy covered just $800,000 of the $2.4 million replacement costs.

One of the buses destroyed by fire was a 2004 model with an estimated cost of $280,000. The the other six were older models.
