A stash of crack cocaine with a value of up to $5,000 was unearthed during a routine Police search yesterday.

The find, which consisted of about 50 crack rocks and 20 twists of cannabis, was made as officers carried out a search on St. Monica?s Road, Pembroke.

The drugs were hidden under a large pile of trash, under grass, and in holes in a wall surrounding St. Monica?s Church.

The Police Support Unit, working with sniffer dogs, was doing a routine check in the area when the drugs were found.

Police arrived at around 12.45 p.m. and saw about six men fleeing the area as soon as they got to the scene.

An illegal Pitt Bull dog was also confiscated during the raid.

No arrests have been made regarding the incident.

Sgt. Mello and his Belgium Shepherd, Max, sniffed out the drugs from the various hiding spots.

?Max has been working for about six years and has recovered numerous drugs over those years,? said Sgt. Mello.

?The Police stayed on the scene for quite some time after the drugs were found to maintain some presence in the area,? Police spokesman Robin Simmons said.
