Faulty equipment at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital which caused some operations to be cancelled has now been replaced according to hospital authorities.

Last week The Royal Gazette reported that technical problems with the hospital's sterilisation machine forced the cancellation of elective surgeries for at least two days.

But yesterday Bermuda Hospitals Board Chief Executive Officer Joan Dillas-Wright said that replacement equipment was flown in from overseas at the weekend.

"Additional equipment to improve water pressure was scheduled to arrive yesterday," Ms Dillas-Wright said yesterday.

"It was installed last night and further tests of sterilises and autoclaves will be conducted tomorrow

"Emergency cases remain unaffected by this situation. We are also continuing to carry out selective non-emergency cases."

The sterilisation machines ran into difficulty last week because of a steam line supply malfunction.

King Edward VII Memorial Hospital would like to thank those patients affected by the postponement of their surgery for their understanding.
