Fight outside Little Theatre
A 19-year-old Devonshire youth appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday for his role in a fight outside the Little Theatre on Wednesday.
Darren Anglin, 19, of Alexandra Road, was arrested in the melee which began on Queen Street shortly after 4 p.m. outside the Hamilton Ice Queen and then moved to the Little Theatre. He admitted fighting.
Witnesses said a fight between two schoolgirls escalated before Police intervened.
?There was a mob of school-kids all egging them on,? Ice Queen manager Mike Johnson said. ?Then the Police came in and got it straightened out. Unfortunately they did not disperse them this time and a second flight broke out in front of the Little Theatre.?
He said the second fight between two men took place to the left of the theatre?s entrance.
Standing at the window, he saw a plain-clothes Policeman break up the fight.
?He was big gentleman. He put that guy on the top of that car like there was no tomorrow,? he said. ?He held him down until Police came and put him in the car. I don?t know what happened to the other guy. Then the detective dispersed all the kids. They definitely did not want to mess with him after what they seen him do to that guy.?
Anglin, who was recently released from the Co-Ed Facility for cycle theft, was released on $1,000 bail with one surety and will re-appear for sentencing on February 3.
Crown counsel Graveney Bannister was unable to determine if the terms of Anglin?s probation had been breached.
Police are asking for anyone with any information to contact Sergeant Kevin Christopher on 295-0011.
